(NaturalNews) We all got a good laugh today: The Michelle Obama GMO story that went viral Friday has been confirmed as a hoax, but it produced such a backlash of anger against the First Lady and Monsanto that the outcry became a new story all by itself. In a very real sense, the hoax story became a whole new story about the backlash.
For those who missed it, the original hoaxclaimed that Michelle Obama had signed on to a Monsanto program to produce "healthy GMOs" for children. The hoax was clever in that it sounded just believable enough to be true. There also seems to be a rush of hoaxes happening lately as biotech operators are actively launching a wave of online disinfo initiatives to try to cloud the conversation about GMOs. For example, the recent launch of MonsantoCollaborators.org is probably a hoax "false flag" operation, I've concluded.
I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next: maybe a website that publishes outright lies and total fabrications about every GMO labeling activist in the world? Oh wait, they already did that. It's called Wikipedia.
Massive public backlashAs the Michelle Obama hoax story went viral, social media erupted with outrage and anger as people expressed their desire to protect their kids from the dangers of GMOs.
What's fascinating here is that if Michelle Obama had any thoughts whatsoever of jumping in bed with Monsanto, today's beta test shows the backlash would be insurmountable. As much as Monsanto and its front group shills have infiltrated the media and government, they haven't won the hearts and minds of the people.
That's not difficult to understand, given that most people don't want to eat hidden poisons in their foods, and they know these corporations have whitewashed the entire issue of long-term health effects on humans. (Anyone who says "GMOs are safe" is a liar. They've never been tested for long-term consumption by humans or animals.)
Monsanto's efforts to block honest food labeling offends nearly everyoneIn fact, the tide of public sentiment is turning against biotech as Monsanto and large food companies like Kraft Foods have been spending tens of millions of dollars to block GMO labeling legislation from becoming law.
If GMOs are so safe and healthy and nutritious, why wouldn't the biotech industry want to advertise GMOs on food labels? The answer is obvious: People don't want to eat GMOs. So the industry is desperately working to hide GMOs in foods, destroy any hope of food transparency and simultaneously confuse consumers with internet-based disinfo campaigns and character assassination attempts.
This info war is going to continue until the GMO labeling issue is settled once and for all. Interestingly, Vermont has already passed a mandatory GMO labeling law, but the biotech industry and the Grocery Manufacturers of America are fighting it tooth and nail in an effort to reverse the law.
At the same time, Whole Foods has publicly stated it will require GMO labeling on everything it sells by 2018. The sheer size and market share of Whole Foods makes this a very big deal, and it makes me wonder just how much pressure the company is getting from the biotech industry to back off this requirement. Will Whole Foods keep its promise? I hope so. We'll have to wait and see.
Once GMOs are labeled, it's basically over for GMOs in America because most consumers will choose non-GMO foods over GMO foods. Shifting demand at the grocery store will ripple up the supply chain and cause shifting demand for what farmers grow. The only reason farmers even grow GMOs right now, of course, is because people keep accidentally buying them. Once people have an honest choice with honest labeling, that will shift dramatically.
The GMO online war zoneYou can fully expect the new few years to be an all-out war zone on the internet, with biotech front groups pulling every trick in the book: hoaxes, traps, disinfo articles, character assassination attacks, infiltration of media groups and more. Every anti-GMO activist is going to be attacked, threatened and disparaged in every way imaginable as this industry attempts a last-ditch effort to silence its critics. But in the end, all this will be recognized as nothing more than corporate propaganda and fabricated disinfo.
There's one more thing going on in all this: Online publishers are right now being offered huge sums of money to sell out to "investors" who then mandate a shift in their editorial focus. This tends to be a very effective tactic because it takes over a media organization with an existing audience and then gently nudges their editorial focus in a pro-biotech direction. I've seen more than one anti-GMO publication suddenly become a pro-Monsanto site, and I'm sure there are more to come.
As the same time, truth-telling website are cropping up everywhere with no end in sight. Telling the truth is contagious, and once people get a taste for the power to be found in telling the truth, they can never get enough of it.
In fact, a publication's take on GMOs is a really good litmus test of whether they can be trusted at all. Every publication that promotes GMOs automatically discredits itself because GMOs have never been tested for long-term consumption by humans. Nor have the long-term environmental effects ever been scientifically tested. In a very real sense, GMOs are a roll of the dice with our lives and our planet at stake.
Meanwhile, publications that question GMOs tend to be more honest and more likely to question the official lies on all sorts of subjects, ranging from the cancer industry to the downing of flight MH17.
For me here at Natural News, it's great to be able to sleep at night, knowing that what we do each and every day is an important part of the fight for humanity's sustainable future in a world under assault by greed-driven corporations. I'm confident that humanity will achieve victory in this fight, and to me that means putting GMOs back in the lab where they belong.
